Ontario Funds Training for Francophone Survivors of Domestic Abuse

The Ontario government is investing $1 million through the Skills Development Fund to provide job-ready training for Francophone survivors of domestic and family abuse. The initiative aims to connect these individuals with employers in the skilled trades.

The program, in partnership with La Maison d’Hébergement pour Femmes francophones, a non-profit French-language shelter based in Toronto, will run for 12 months. It will include mental health supports, essential life skills training, and on-the-job training to address the unique challenges faced by participants.

The Skills Development Fund has supported nearly 600,000 workers since its launch in 2021. The fund's fifth round opened on July 29, 2024, and applications will be reviewed until October 4, 2024.
