Ontario Government Announces Healthcare Initiatives
The Ontario government has announced several initiatives aimed at enhancing the healthcare system across the province. These measures include modernizing the provincial electronic health record system to provide Ontarians with secure online access to their personal health information through Health811, starting next year. Additionally, nurse practitioners will be allowed to complete and sign mandatory blood testing forms, which is intended to expand access to care for various groups, including crime victims and medical students.
The government is also exploring options to support consistent mental health and addiction services and is reviewing ambulance standards to improve patient safety. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to connect residents with healthcare services more efficiently.
Furthermore, the government is working on strengthening the authority of the Chief Medical Officer of Health to ensure consistency in health orders across different regions. Public health regulations concerning public pools and zoonotic diseases are also being updated to align with best practices.
These initiatives are part of the proposed More Convenient Care Act, 2024, which aims to improve healthcare delivery and access throughout Ontario.
