Ontario provides more than $1.6M for Sixth Street watermain and sewer work in Smooth Rock Falls

The Ontario government is providing more than $1.6 million for water and sewer work on Sixth Street in Smooth Rock Falls, according to a May 6 notice from the Town of Smooth Rock Falls.

The town says the money is to install a new watermain and upgrade the sanitary sewer—work that can affect water service and road access once construction is scheduled.

The town said the funding is through Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program — Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS), which supports municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The town’s notice did not include a construction start date or project timeline, saying more information will be shared as the project moves forward.

In a statement included with the town’s posting, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy said the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program totals $4 billion.

Mayor Patrick Roberts said in the same notice that council and the community were grateful for the funding for the Sixth Street upgrades.
