Police Investigate Two Suspicious Business Fires on Third Avenue in Timmins

Two fires occurred on Third Avenue in Timmins on September 12 and 13, resulting in significant damage to two local businesses. Both fires are considered suspicious, according to the Timmins Police Service, which is conducting the investigation.

The police report that the first fire was reported at approximately 3:00 a.m. on September 12 near Balsam Street South. The Timmins Fire Department responded, and the matter was referred to police after the fire was deemed suspicious.

A second incident took place at around midnight on September 13. A police officer on patrol observed smoke and found an active fire on Third Avenue near Cedar Street South. The fire was extinguished by the Timmins Fire Department, and the investigation was turned over to police as it was also considered suspicious.

Investigators are working to identify those responsible. The Timmins Police Service is asking residents and businesses to review any surveillance or dashcam footage they may have from Third Avenue and Algonquin Boulevard East, from Pine Street South to Mountjoy Street South, including area laneways. Police are seeking footage from 2:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on September 12, and from 11:30 p.m. to midnight on September 13.

According to the police, relevant video footage can be submitted to investigators through a link on the Timmins Police Service website. Anyone with information regarding these fires is asked to contact the Timmins Police Service. Police have not released information about any injuries or arrests related to the incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
