Provincial Funding Boosts Research at Northern College
The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade has invested $191,466 in Northern College's Mining Centric Research Innovation Hub at the Timmins Campus. This funding aims to support mining-focused research and development. According to Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the investment is expected to enhance technological development and job creation.
Amy McKillip, Manager of Applied Research, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northern College, stated that the investment will allow the college to dedicate a 24,000 square foot space at the Timmins Campus to research and innovation in the mining sector. This space will provide experiential learning opportunities for students and help meet the growing demand for innovation across the province.
The funding announcement was made alongside a $600,000 investment from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to several local businesses in Timmins, including The Bucket Shop Inc., Conveyers Plus LTD., and Sewn Home.
