Quebec Chocolate Recall Linked to Salmonella: No Reports in Northeast Ontario

A recall has been issued for Chocofolie brand "Chocolat Dubaï - chocolat au lait kunafa & pistache" because of possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on September 4, 2025. The affected product is a 145-gram milk chocolate with kunafa and pistachio, code 225076. No UPC is listed for the product. The product was distributed in Quebec.

The CFIA states this recall is related to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak under investigation by the agency in cooperation with the Public Health Agency of Canada. According to the CFIA, food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause illness.

The CFIA lists possible symptoms as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The agency reports that young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop serious infections, and long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The CFIA is monitoring the removal of the affected chocolate from the marketplace and has noted that additional products could be recalled as the investigation continues. Les Sucreries Chocofolie Inc. is the recalling firm named in the notice.

The CFIA advises that anyone who thinks they became ill after consuming the recalled product should contact their healthcare provider, and further recommends not consuming, serving, using, selling, or distributing the product. The agency states that identified recalled products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

As of this notice, there have been no reports from the CFIA of the product being recalled or sold in Northeast Ontario. The recall applies to Quebec only, according to the official information available.
