Recall Issued for Enoki Mushrooms in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia Due to Listeria Risk
A recall has been issued for 200-gram packages of Enoki Mushrooms distributed in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall on August 12, 2025, after its own test results triggered the action. The product, which does not carry a brand name, was distributed by Jacky Trading International Inc. and identified by UPC code 6 976532 310051. As of the date of the recall, no illnesses have been reported.
According to the CFIA, Listeria monocytogenes can contaminate food without changing its appearance or smell. The agency warns that people at higher risk of listeriosis include older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may experience mild, flu-like symptoms, but infection can result in more severe outcomes, such as premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or stillbirth. In severe cases, listeriosis can be fatal.
The CFIA advises consumers not to eat, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled Enoki Mushrooms. The product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. The agency is currently conducting a food safety investigation and verifying that industry is removing the recalled mushrooms from the marketplace. The CFIA notes that additional recalls may be issued if more products are found to be affected in the course of the ongoing investigation.
