Recall Issued for Shamyat Cuisine Baklava and Ice Cream Products Over Salmonella Risk
Several pistachio baklava and ice cream products sold at Shamyat Cuisine, 4141 Dixie Road in Mississauga, are being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to a warning published by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on September 4, 2025.
The CFIA states that this recall is part of an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. These products were distributed in Ontario and were available for purchase between June 1 and June 30, 2025. The recalled items include Shamyat Pistachio Arabic Ice Cream (in both 1 kg packages and clerk-served), as well as clerk-served Pistachio Mabrume, Pistachio Finger Baklawa, Pistachio Flower Baklawa, Pistachio Square Baklawa, Pistachio Faisaliyea, and Pistachio Basma.
According to the CFIA, food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear or smell spoiled but may still cause illness. The agency warns that Salmonella infection can be especially serious for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms reported by the agency include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating the related outbreak.
The CFIA advises consumers not to eat, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products, and states that these products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation and is monitoring to ensure the affected products are removed from stores. Further details and related updates are available through the CFIA website.
