Reduced-load limits for commercial vehicles to take effect April 3 on some Timmins roads

Reduced-load restrictions for commercial motor vehicles and trailers are set to take effect in Timmins on Friday, April 3, 2026, on specific highways and streets listed under Schedule A of By-law 2006-6275.

According to the City of Timmins, the seasonal limits are intended to protect roads and highways during the spring thaw, when damage is most likely to occur.

The city said its Public Works Department uses the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s Reduced Load Period (RLP) Table to determine when the restrictions begin and end. The city said the table uses frost depth, moisture levels, and daily air temperatures to indicate when reduced-load restrictions should be put in place and when they are lifted.

The city said this year’s start date is approximately two weeks later than in 2025.

Roads where reduced-load limits are in effect will have signs posted, the city said.
