Ross Avenue, Murray Street and Gordon Street closed in Timmins Feb. 19 for emergency watermain repair
Ross Avenue, Murray Street and Gordon Street in Timmins were closed on Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an emergency watermain break repair, according to the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department.
The city said the repair work could also affect nearby water service, with some homes and businesses potentially seeing a short-term loss of water and pressure or brown or rust-coloured tap water.
In its notice, the city identified the water disruption notification area as Ross Avenue from Hemlock Street to Kay Crescent, including Golden Manor.
For the road work, the city said Ross Avenue was closed between Hemlock Street and Hart Street. Murray Street and Gordon Street were also closed between Ross Avenue and Brousseau Avenue.
If tap water becomes discoloured, the city recommended residents not drink it or use it to wash laundry. The city said the discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.
The city advised that if discolouration occurs during the work, residents should turn off their tap for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish. After the work is completed, the city said residents should turn on the cold water tap closest to the source—usually a laundry-tub tap—and run it for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
