Salmonella Risk Prompts National Recall of Pistachio Food Products in Canada
Several food products containing pistachios have been recalled nationwide due to possible Salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall on August 29, 2025, and stated that it was initiated following findings from an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating related illnesses.
The recall includes specific items from Maison Si Bon Inc. and Allo Simonne, and affects products distributed in stores and online. Residents in northern Ontario and across Canada are advised to check whether they have any of the following recalled products, according to the CFIA:
- "Baklava Losange" (clerk-served), sold between August 9 and August 16, 2025, at Maison Si Bon Inc. locations at 2123 boul. Le Carrefour and 3509 boul. Concorde Est, Laval, Quebec.
- "Baklava Fleur" (clerk-served), sold during the same period and locations as above.
- Allo Simonne "Sour cherries & pistachios covered in chocolate, rose petals" (130 g, UPC 6 28347 31059 2) with lot numbers 414-112-25 (best before May 2026) and 414-148-25 (best before June 2026).
- Allo Simonne "Dark chocolate Easter eggs, pistachios, raspberries" (150 g, UPC 6 28347 31012 12), lot 219-062-25 (best before August 2025).
The CFIA advises that these products should not be consumed, used, sold, served, or distributed. They recommend that affected products be thrown out or returned to where they were purchased. Individuals who believe they may have become ill after consuming any of the recalled products should contact their healthcare provider.
According to the CFIA, Salmonella contamination may not change the appearance or smell of food but can cause illness. Risk of serious infection is higher for young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms in healthy people include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Severe complications such as arthritis may also occur.
The CFIA reports that its food safety investigation is ongoing and that further recalls may be issued if necessary. The agency is confirming that all recalled products are removed from the market. Updates and details related to this and other recalls are published on the CFIA’s website.
