Smooth Rock Falls advances proposed 20-unit seniors’ housing project on Catherine Street

Smooth Rock Falls council has authorized staff to move ahead with a design-build contract for a proposed 20-unit seniors’ housing building on Catherine Street, as the project moves into planning and regulatory approvals, according to a town announcement dated March 25, 2026.

The proposal outlines a new independent-living facility intended for seniors in Smooth Rock Falls. The town says the development is still subject to required approvals before it can advance.

In its release, the town described the project as a 20-unit building made up of twenty two-bedroom units designed for independent living.

Plans also include shared indoor and outdoor common areas.

The town has engaged Descon Construction Ltd. under a design-build approach, along with financial consultant Dave Butler and planning consultant Keith Harriman.

Council’s direction includes proceeding with execution of a CCDC 14 design-build contract with Descon Construction Ltd.

Council also approved setting up a not-for-profit corporation to oversee and administer the project.

The town chose the Catherine Street site for its proximity to services and amenities.

Residents who previously expressed interest through the community survey and said they were willing to submit a deposit will be contacted in the coming weeks with more details, the town said.
