Smooth Rock Falls Council Addresses Equipment Rental, Land Use, Regional Advocacy, and Traffic Safety

Smooth Rock Falls Town Council met on September 2, 2025, to discuss policies and decisions affecting equipment rentals, municipal land use, inter-municipal cooperation, campaign support, a transportation grant application, and local traffic safety.

The discussion and decisions provide information for residents on rules for accessing town property, council actions in regional matters, and responses to local safety concerns.

Council directed staff to review and develop a rental policy for small equipment available to town residents. Staff will bring the draft policy to a future meeting for consideration.

On municipally-owned land, staff confirmed the area behind the Community Centre, currently used as a children's park, remains reserved for town use. Council reiterated that no personal items may be stored on municipal property and instructed staff to inform the affected residents.

Council voted to endorse the Town of Cochrane’s resolution asking for the revocation of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) with the Northeast Community Network (NeCN) and requested local representatives advocate for this change.

Council supported the H.E.R. Elect Reset campaign, directing it to proceed with outreach, education, and political engagement activities. Council also resolved to send this decision to organizations such as the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), and the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM).

An amendment to the Fees and Charges By-law was approved to align with a request from the Ministry of Transportation, related to the town’s application for the 2025-2027 Connecting Link program. Council agreed to pursue a funding request estimated at $400,000.

A notice of motion was received concerning traffic safety at the intersection of Highway 634 and Clutier Road. Council noted the concerns for future consideration.
