Smooth Rock Falls Proclaims January 2025 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
The Town of Smooth Rock Falls has declared January 2025 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. This initiative is intended to increase awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder that affects memory and cognitive function, primarily impacting individuals over the age of 65, though it can also affect younger adults.
According to the proclamation, more than 733,040 Canadians are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, with projections suggesting that nearly 1 million Canadians will be affected by dementia by 2031. The Alzheimer Society Cochrane-Temiskaming offers programs and services to residents in the region, promoting the concept of Dementia Friendly communities, which support individuals with dementia in maintaining active roles in society.
Mayor Patrick Roberts officially proclaimed January 2025 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in Smooth Rock Falls, encouraging the community to foster inclusivity and support for those living with dementia.
