Smooth Rock Falls prohibits dumping snow on roads, sidewalks; fines $150–$550, no warnings
Smooth Rock Falls issued a Dec. 8 notice stating that pushing, plowing, or dumping snow onto municipal roads or sidewalks is prohibited under By-Law No. 2025-72, with fines ranging from $150 to $550 under the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS). The town says fines will be issued without warning.
The notice describes the activity as a “serious safety hazard” and says moving snow into the roadway or onto sidewalks can lead to dangerous conditions.
According to the penalty schedule in the notice, fines are set as follows: a first offence carries a $150 to $250 fine; a repeat offence carries a $250 to $550 fine; and dumping on sidewalks carries a $300 to $550 fine.
The notice states these provisions are being actively enforced under AMPS.
