Smooth Rock Falls releases certified candidate list for 2026 municipal election

Smooth Rock Falls has released its certified candidate list for the 2026 municipal election, with two candidates certified for mayor and eight certified for councillor, according to the town’s Form EL07 notice dated Aug. 24, 2026.

The notice identifies the people whose nominations were certified after the nomination period closed on Aug. 21, as set out under Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

In the notice, clerk and returning officer Nathalie Vachon wrote that the nomination period ran from May 1, 2026, to nomination day on Aug. 21, 2026. The notice states that candidates filed the required nomination papers, declarations and fees.

Vachon also wrote that the clerk examined each nomination and was satisfied the candidates were qualified under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, and that their nominations complied with statutory requirements.

The certified candidates for mayor are Patrick Roberts and Gratien Bernier.

The certified candidates for councillor are Joe (Jean-Marie) Couture, Leslie Gagnon, Tracy Gagnon, Jason Elliott, Gary Kurtz, Serge Richard, Jean-Marc Bérubé and Denise Pelletier.
