Smooth Rock Falls says $1,255.15 grant will pay for materials to make new cemetery crosses
The Town of Smooth Rock Falls says it received $1,255.15 from SADC North Claybelt CFDC through its Special Initiative Fund to buy materials for a cemetery cross replacement project.
The work affects the town’s municipal cemetery, where the town says deteriorated grave markers are being replaced with new crosses. The town’s notice did not give a timeline for when the remaining crosses will be installed.
In a statement posted on the town’s website, Smooth Rock Falls said the funding paid for materials to fabricate HDPE (high-density polyethylene) crosses.
The town also said local volunteers contributed time and skills to making the new crosses.
Smooth Rock Falls said installation of the remaining crosses will take place after anchoring materials arrive.
