Smooth Rock Falls to hold Jan. 24 rally calling for action on Highways 11 and 17
Smooth Rock Falls will hold a rally on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, to call on the Ontario government to address what the town describes as dangerous conditions on Highways 11 and 17. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon at the Moose Motel in Smooth Rock Falls.
The town’s notice links the rally to ongoing concerns in Northern Ontario communities about highway safety and closures. In its statement, Smooth Rock Falls said problems on Highways 11 and 17 can affect travel and access to services across the region.
The town described the gathering as a “peaceful rally” and said it is being held alongside neighbouring Northern Ontario communities.
In its announcement, the municipality said that without reliable alternate routes, unsafe conditions and closures on Highways 11 and 17 can isolate communities, delay emergency response, and disrupt deliveries of goods.
The town is inviting residents to attend. People who want to share a personal story or experience at the rally are asked to contact Shannon Piper through the town’s office, according to the notice.
