Statistics Canada Reports January 2025 Housing Price Decline

Statistics Canada has reported that the national new housing price index decreased by 0.1% in January 2025. This follows a similar decline noted in December 2024. According to the report, prices stayed the same in 15 of the 27 surveyed census metropolitan areas (CMAs), while nine CMAs saw increased prices and three experienced decreases.

Toronto, which is Canada's largest new housing market, recorded a price drop of 0.4%. This city significantly influences the national index, as it makes up nearly a quarter (23.6%) of the index's national weight.

The data from Statistics Canada reflects comprehensive surveying across various CMAs to present a snapshot of trends in the housing market both regionally and nationally.
