Timmins Allocates Additional $100K for Safety Improvement Grant
An additional $100,000 has been allocated by Timmins City Council to the Safety Improvement Grant. This funding is part of the Downtown Community Improvement Plan (CIP), aimed at aiding commercial, industrial, and institutional businesses in bolstering security measures across their properties.
The grant covers up to 75% of costs with a ceiling of $7,500 per recipient. Unique among CIP streams, the Safety Improvement Grant is available beyond the downtown areas designated in the CIP, following amendments made by the council in 2024.
The city has processed 21 grant applications thus far, channeling resources into projects like building improvements, façade upgrades, and security enhancements. Though 2025's budget is exceeded, existing reserves remain adequate, with the new funds ensuring uninterrupted business access.
Eligible parties should complete the Downtown CIP application form, specifically indicating the Safety Improvement Grant, which can be submitted through the Community Development Planner by email or at City Hall. Projects are advised not to commence until the necessary due diligence checks are fulfilled, and a formal agreement, confirming fund allocation, is in place. Details on applications and processes are accessible via the Timmins City website.
Eligibility Checks: A fire safety inspection and confirmation of financial responsibilities, including taxes and utilities, are required for applicants. For more specifics, visit the Timmins City website's section on CIP grants.
