Timmins and District Hospital Expands Ophthalmology Services

Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) has expanded its ophthalmology services through a partnership with the University of Toronto’s Kensington Eye Institute. Since March 2023, the Locum Ophthalmology Clinic has provided care to nearly 400 patients, including 90 referrals for cataract surgery, with 40 surgeries completed to date. The clinic operates two weeks each month, offering laser procedures and general ophthalmology services such as glaucoma and diabetes screening. Four ophthalmologists and four ophthalmology residents have participated in the program. TADH plans to further increase clinic operations and surgical services in 2024. Patients seeking referrals are advised to contact their primary care provider or visit a walk-in clinic.
