Timmins announces Heart of Gold civic awards for Archie Berube and Rick Morgan
The City of Timmins announced March 10 that it is honouring Archie Berube and Rick Morgan with Heart of Gold Civic Awards for volunteer work in sports and community service.
According to the city, the awards recognize residents for volunteerism and contributions to the community, with recipients recognized during a regular meeting of Timmins city council.
Berube has volunteered with the Northern Ontario Golf Association for more than 25 years. The city said he helped strengthen the association’s relationship with Golf Ontario and Golf Canada.
The city said Berube also supports the Hollinger Golf Club’s Starter and Marshal Program, volunteers at Golf Ontario qualifiers and championships, and contributes to golf course ratings across Northern Ontario.
Berube has been inducted into the Timmins Sports Heritage Hall of Fame and the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame, the city said.
Morgan has volunteered in Timmins for decades, including with the Kiwanis Club of Timmins. The city said his volunteer work includes helping youth participate in sports, attend medical appointments, and access medical equipment.
The city said Morgan has been recognized as Kiwanian of the Year multiple times.
Morgan also volunteers with the Timmins Food Bank, where he helps organize food drives and coordinate donations, the city said.
Nominations for the city’s Heart of Gold Recognition Program are accepted in four categories: volunteer and community service, youth community and civic engagement, achievement in sports, and achievement in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).
