Timmins awards $17.96M plus HST contract for Algonquin Boulevard East reconstruction

Timmins city council has awarded GIP Interpaving Ltd. a $17,960,701.85 plus HST contract to reconstruct two sections of Algonquin Boulevard East, from Brunette Road to Father Costello Drive East. The work covers Connecting Link segments 9 and 10, and construction is planned over two years, according to the City of Timmins.

Drivers and nearby property owners can expect lane reductions along the corridor during construction, with traffic controlled in phases. The city said access to businesses and properties along the route will be maintained throughout the project.

The city said work will begin this year on Segment 9, which runs approximately 700 metres from Brunette Road to Highway 655.

For Segment 9, the city said the project includes full road surface reconstruction, including new asphalt, curbs, sidewalks, and traffic medians. It also includes replacement of sections of watermain and storm sewer infrastructure.

The project will replace traffic signals at Brunette Road and Highway 655 and upgrade streetlights to meet current standards, the city said.

Scott Tam, the city’s director of growth and infrastructure, said emergency service operations are expected to continue without interruption during the work. “Emergency service operations, including ambulance access, will remain uninterrupted during construction,” Tam said.

The city said an exact start date for Segment 9 has not been confirmed. The City of Timmins expects to release an updated construction timeline in the coming weeks.

GIP Interpaving Ltd. will also complete Segment 13 of the Connecting Link this year, according to the city.
