Timmins City Council Approves 2025 Taxation Fund Budget
The Timmins City Council has approved the 2025 taxation fund budget, which includes a 3.43% increase from the previous year. This budget is part of the overall municipal budget that incorporates contributions from city agencies, boards, and commissions, as well as assessments from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and provincial education rates. The final property tax rate for 2025 is anticipated to be confirmed by April.
The operating budget for 2025 is set at $38,758,611, covering essential services such as road maintenance, public transit, garbage collection, snow removal, and park maintenance. Additionally, the capital budget for 2025 amounts to $12,253,418, reflecting an 18.2% increase from the prior year. This budget supports infrastructure projects, including road repairs, upgrades to the Mattagami boat launch, construction of a bus wash facility, and storm repairs.
Mayor Michelle Boileau noted the balance between maintaining core services and planning for future growth, highlighting investments in road rehabilitation, public parks, and housing capacity expansion.
