Timmins City Crews Clean Up Abandoned Encampments
City crews in Timmins have completed the cleanup of abandoned encampments at Hollinger Park and a laneway behind Spruce St. S. This operation was conducted by the City’s Enforcement Services and Public Works departments. The cleanup addressed waste and sanitation concerns that had developed at these sites over the summer and fall.
According to city officials, no individuals were removed during the cleanup as both sites had been vacated due to the arrival of colder weather. The city confirmed that any tents or structures still in use were left undisturbed.
The cleanup was initiated in response to concerns about sanitation and public safety at the encampment sites. These concerns had been highlighted by city authorities throughout the warmer months, as the accumulation of waste posed potential health risks.
Hollinger Park and the laneway behind Spruce St. S. had seen an increase in temporary shelters over recent months. However, as temperatures dropped, individuals who had been using these sites sought shelter indoors, leaving behind various items and structures.
City officials emphasized the necessity of the cleanup to mitigate environmental impact and ensure public safety in these areas. The city continues to monitor such sites to address any future issues that may arise.
