Timmins council approves $2.953M 2026 fleet plan; internal equipment rates up 5%
Timmins City Council approved the 2026 fleet program on Dec. 3, authorizing $2,953,000 to replace high‑use vehicles and equipment for road and winter maintenance, utilities work, and traffic operations. Council also approved a 5% increase to internal fleet charge‑out rates for 2026.
The decision addresses aging assets that have contributed to service disruptions, higher maintenance costs, and increased reliance on temporary rental units. The plan identifies specific replacements and updates the internal rates that fund upkeep and future purchases.
In 2026, the city will add a plow truck, a sand truck, a utility service truck, a loader‑mounted snowblower, an asphalt hot box, six TC‑12 traffic signs for work‑zone operations, and 18 light vehicles.
Internal charge‑out rates are fees billed by the Fleet Division—which owns and maintains municipal vehicles and equipment—to other departments for the use of that equipment. The fees collected help offset maintenance and repair costs and contribute to the equipment replacement fund.
Surplus equipment replaced through the program will be traded or sold through an online auction process.
The vehicles and equipment support work carried out by Public Works and Public Utilities across roadway, winter control, utilities maintenance, and traffic safety operations throughout the year.
