Timmins council designates Pine Street South as temporary encampment location for spring and summer 2026

Timmins city council has approved using municipal property on Pine Street South as a temporary designated encampment location for spring and summer 2026, according to a City of Timmins news release.

The city said the decision is intended to reduce the number of tents in parks and other public spaces and to respond to the immediate needs of people experiencing homelessness.

A report to council said the Pine Street South location was chosen because it has space to support an organized, temporary site and is away from residential neighbourhoods. The city said work will now begin to determine what is required to make the location functional, including safety measures and site servicing.

Council also approved measures related to the laneway behind the emergency shelter at 316 Spruce Street South. The city said temporary fencing is being installed to help mitigate impacts on neighbouring residential properties.

According to the city, staff will work directly with the eight adjacent property owners to determine the most appropriate fencing solution.
