Timmins council hires consultant for 20- to 25-year Timmins Transit master plan

Timmins City Council has approved a Timmins Transit master plan to guide transit service planning and related decisions over the next 20 to 25 years, awarding the work to Gannett Fleming Canada ULC for $148,886 plus HST.

The plan will shape how the city reviews and updates bus service in Timmins, including routes and schedules, and will include opportunities for residents to provide input as the work moves ahead.

According to the city’s announcement, the master plan will include a review of Timmins Transit’s existing network and the city’s public transportation delivery model. The city said the review is aimed at aligning service with changing travel patterns, ridership recovery and operational constraints.

A key component of the work is integrated route optimization—adjusting transit routes and schedules. As part of that review, existing routes, schedules, service frequency and stop locations will be evaluated against rider demand and available resources.

Public input will be included through in-person and online options, including transit focus groups, open houses and public surveys. Participants will be asked to share their experiences, identify challenges and provide input on priorities for future transit service.

The city said it will share updates on the master plan as the project gets underway, including additional opportunities for public input. More information is available at www.timmins.ca/transit.
