Timmins council selects Option 1 for Leo Del Villano Park upgrades
Timmins City Council selected Option 1 for upgrades at Leo Del Villano Park, keeping the tennis courts in place, adding at least two pickleball courts, exploring a permanent outdoor rink with removable boards, and moving the soccer field to the park’s south end.
The decision sets the direction for a shared-surface layout that could support ball hockey in summer and ice skating in winter, and outlines the amenities staff will examine as design work continues.
Council chose Option 1 from three concepts presented by the Recreation Department.
Under the plan, the existing tennis courts will be overhauled and expanded, and a minimum of two pickleball courts will be added. The total number could increase depending on site capacity.
Council requested that the courts remain in their current location.
Staff will study a permanent outdoor rink that uses removable boards so the surface can serve different activities seasonally. The design includes a new concrete pad to support warm‑weather use.
The soccer field would be repositioned to the south end of the park.
Recreation staff will also review adding new playground equipment, a gazebo, and shaded seating, features identified during public engagement.
A final park design will be brought back to council for approval. The city announced the direction on Oct. 15.
