Timmins Council Sets 2025 Water and Wastewater Budget
The City of Timmins has approved the 2025 budget for water and wastewater services, which includes a 5.49% annual increase in fees. This decision aligns with the city's 10-year financial strategy and incorporates a 1% capital levy aimed at funding necessary infrastructure projects.
For an average household with five rooms, this adjustment translates to an additional $26 for water and $37 for wastewater annually, alongside a $14.79 levy, totaling $77.79 per year. This means an approximate increase of $6.50 per month on utility bills compared to the previous year.
The budget includes significant projects such as the replacement of underground infrastructure from Crawford Street to the Porcupine River Bridge, part of the connecting link construction. Additionally, the Tisdale Reservoir Project is set to receive $3.4 million annually over two years to replace existing facilities with a new setup near South Porcupine. The city is also initiating a three-year plan to develop water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure to support new residential areas.
The water and wastewater budget is distinct from the general municipal budget, as it is funded through user fees rather than property taxes. The full financial plan is available on the City of Timmins website under the Water and Sewer section.
