Timmins declares Significant Weather Event for 5 a.m. Nov. 26; plowing and transit delays possible
Timmins Public Works declared a Significant Weather Event under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O. Reg. 239/02), effective 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, following an Environment Canada winter storm warning. Plowing on some streets and most sidewalks will be delayed, and Timmins Transit service may be delayed or cancelled while conditions persist.
The declaration allows the municipality to adjust road and sidewalk maintenance timelines during severe weather. Residents should expect slower snow clearing, possible transit disruptions, and continued enforcement of overnight on‑street parking rules until conditions improve and the notice is lifted.
Environment Canada predicts a major winter storm with snow, heavy at times, and local blowing snow beginning tonight and continuing through Friday before tapering off Saturday evening. The agency lists potential hazards of 30 to 60 centimetres of total snowfall and near‑zero visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Environment Canada advises residents to consider postponing non‑essential travel until conditions improve and notes that highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
Crews will be deployed when deemed appropriate, with expected delays in clearing some roads and most sidewalks during the storm.
Timmins Transit notes that delays and cancellations are possible. Updates will be shared via the City website and social media.
The Winter Parking Ban remains in effect. On‑street parking is not permitted between 11:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. from Nov. 1 through Apr. 30, unless otherwise posted.
City Bylaw 1993‑4162 prohibits placing snow from private property onto roads or sidewalks.
An additional notice will be posted to declare the end of the Significant Weather Event when the municipality determines it is appropriate to do so.
