Timmins declares significant weather event for March 15, 2026, ahead of 30–50 cm snow forecast
Timmins declared a “significant weather event” effective 12 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, ahead of a storm forecast calling for 30 to 50 centimetres of snow and wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h.
The declaration, made under Ontario Regulation 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways), signals that severe weather may affect the city’s ability to meet normal road and sidewalk maintenance timelines.
The city forecasts snow will begin Sunday evening and continue through Monday night, with near-zero visibility possible in heavy and blowing snow. The forecast also includes a risk of ice buildup from freezing rain.
The city said roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate, with visibility at times near zero.
Environment Canada advised residents to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
The city said plowing may be delayed on some streets and roads and on most sidewalks because of the expected snowfall. The city said crews will respond when conditions are safe.
Timmins Transit may face delays or cancellations during the storm.
Timmins’ winter parking ban remains in effect, prohibiting parking on city streets daily between 11:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. from Nov. 1 to April 30, unless otherwise posted.
City By-law 1993-4162 prohibits placing snow from private property onto city roads or sidewalks.
The city said it will issue a notice when the significant weather event ends.
