Timmins delegation plans Toronto trip for 2026 ROMA conference meetings with province
A City of Timmins delegation is expected to travel to Toronto next week to meet with provincial ministers and senior officials during the 2026 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference, the city said in a statement dated Jan. 28.
The city says the meetings are intended to raise Timmins’ priorities with the Ontario government, including proposed road bypass routes, funding for a feasibility study for a proposed Multi-Purpose Recreation and Events Centre, and discussion about the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority.
The delegation plans to ask the province for support for proposed northern and southern bypass routes. The city says the routes are intended to reduce congestion on the city’s main corridor, improve road safety, and lower the cost of infrastructure rehabilitation.
The city says it will ask the province to consider the bypass routes in relation to mining and forestry operations. In the city’s statement, it said the bypasses would be aimed at reducing delays and safety risks for industrial traffic.
The delegation also plans to seek provincial funding for a feasibility study for a proposed Multi-Purpose Recreation and Events Centre. The city said the proposed centre would allow the municipality to repurpose aged infrastructure.
Another topic listed by the city is the role of the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority, with the city describing its focus as environmental oversight that is effective and locally responsive.
The city did not provide specific dates for any planned meetings with provincial representatives.
