Timmins Delegation to Request Provincial Funding at AMO Conference
Mayor Michelle Boileau and senior municipal staff from Timmins will attend the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa from August 18 to 21, 2024. They plan to request increased provincial funding for infrastructure projects.
The delegation will present Timmins' Housing Action Plan, discuss the need for a new multi-purpose recreation facility, and request that the province take responsibility for Highway 67.
Meetings are scheduled with several provincial ministers, including the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Minister of Sport, and the Minister of Transportation. Discussions will cover subdivision development costs, funding for the recreation facility, and the maintenance of Highway 67.
Mayor Boileau will also join other Northern Ontario mayors to discuss healthcare issues with the Ontario Health Minister. Timmins' Council has committed to funding a physician startup grant to address the local doctor shortage.
