Timmins fire department issues city-wide fire ban effective immediately

The Timmins Fire Department has issued a city-wide fire ban effective immediately due to a lack of precipitation and extremely dry conditions.

The ban affects residents across Timmins because it prohibits open-air burning and other outdoor fires that can spread quickly in dry weather. The fire department said the restrictions will stay in place until further notice.

The ban applies within Timmins’ municipal boundaries.

Under the ban, all open-air burning and open flames are prohibited. All burning permits are suspended, and campfires, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits, incinerator burning, and brush and slash-pile burning are not allowed.

Propane-fueled fire pits and propane or natural gas barbecues are permitted.

The fire department said anyone who sets or maintains an open-air fire during the ban may be held responsible for resulting damages and suppression costs, and may also be subject to fines and other penalties.
