Timmins Home Receives Heritage Recognition

The Mackechnie family home, located at the end of Wilson Avenue in Timmins, has been recognized with an official heritage plaque by the city. This two-storey log home, built in 1925 by Harry W. Darling, was acquired by Dr. Graeme Mackechnie in 1947 and has remained with the family since. The house is noted for its historical character and is the first residential building on the city's Municipal Heritage Register to receive such a plaque.

Councillor Andrew Marks, chair of the Municipal Heritage Committee, stated that the property is the only residential building on the register. The committee, which advises the city council on heritage matters, aims to promote conservation and manage the Municipal Heritage Register. Marks shared a personal anecdote about the house, recalling how his father, a hockey player, was treated by Dr. Mackechnie after an injury during a game.
