Timmins Hospital Implements Digital Cataract Monitoring
Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) has introduced a digital patient engagement platform, SeamlessMD, for cataract surgery patients. This makes TADH the first hospital in Canada to offer this service. SeamlessMD provides personalized education, progress tracking, and post-operative symptom monitoring through patients' smartphones, tablets, or computers.
The hospital began using SeamlessMD three years ago and has since enrolled over 1,400 patients. The platform has contributed to a 20% reduction in patient readmissions within 30 days of discharge and a 40% reduction in emergency department visits within seven days of discharge for planned procedures.
TADH offers digital care plans for various medical areas, including urology, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, gynecology, and ENT. Over the past year, patients received 727 hours of education through SeamlessMD, with 99% of surveyed patients finding the information easy to read and 95% finding it easy to locate.
The hospital serves the City of Timmins, Cochrane District, and surrounding areas, providing a range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services.
