Timmins imposes city-wide fire ban due to dry conditions

The Timmins Fire Department has issued a city-wide fire ban, effective immediately, for all areas within the municipal boundaries of the City of Timmins due to a lack of precipitation and extremely dry conditions. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.

The restriction affects anyone planning outdoor burning in Timmins, as it prohibits open-air burning and open flames and suspends all burning permits during the ban.

The fire department’s notice lists the following as prohibited under the ban: campfires, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, incinerator burning, and brush and slash pile burning.

Propane-fueled fire pits and propane or natural gas barbecues are permitted and may continue to be used with caution, according to the notice.

The notice also says that anyone who sets or maintains an open-air fire during the ban may be held responsible for any resulting damages and suppression costs, and may be subject to fines and other penalties.

The City of Timmins posted the announcement online today at 9:48 a.m.
