Timmins issues extreme cold weather alert for Feb. 12; overnight temperatures expected to drop to -20 including wind chill
The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, saying temperatures are expected to drop to -20 overnight, including wind chill.
Extreme cold alerts can affect people who are outdoors for extended periods and those without reliable heat or shelter, and the city also uses the notices to point residents to emergency services.
As part of a pilot project, the city has adjusted the threshold for issuing extreme cold weather alerts. Under the new trigger, the city will issue alerts when conditions are forecast to be -20 or colder, including wind chill.
People who need emergency shelter can go to 316 Spruce St. S. for assistance.
The city warned that exposure to extreme cold temperatures can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia. The notice also advised people to protect themselves from the cold by limiting wind exposure and covering exposed skin.
