Timmins issues extreme cold weather alert for Jan. 19, with evening wind chill near -38°C

The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, warning that temperatures were expected to drop as low as -38°C in the evening, including wind chill.

The alert matters for residents spending time outdoors or travelling in Timmins because it warns that exposure to extreme cold can lead to serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The city’s alert listed precautions such as avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers, and covering exposed skin.

For people needing emergency shelter, the city said assistance was available at 316 Spruce St. S. in Timmins.

The city posted the alert at 10:41 a.m. on Jan. 19, according to the notice.
