Timmins issues extreme cold weather alert for Jan. 22; overnight low expected to reach -42 with wind chill

The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, with temperatures expected to drop as low as -42 overnight, including wind chill.

The city said exposure to extreme cold can lead to serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

In its notice, the City of Timmins said protection from extreme cold conditions includes avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers and covering exposed skin.

The city said people requiring emergency shelter can attend 316 Spruce St. S. for assistance.

The alert was posted on the City of Timmins website at 11:53 a.m. on Jan. 22. Timmins’ Cold Weather Response Plan is available on the city website.
