The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Thursday, March 12, with temperatures expected to drop to -26 overnight, including wind chill. Emergency shelter is available at 316 Spruce St. S., according to the city’s notice.

The alert warns that exposure to extreme cold can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The notice was posted at 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
