Timmins issues extreme cold weather alert for March 24, 2026; -28 C expected overnight with wind chill

The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with overnight temperatures expected to drop to -28 C, including wind chill.

The city said the alert is intended to highlight health and safety risks during periods of severe cold and to point residents to available supports, including emergency shelter.

In its notice, the city warned that exposure to extreme cold temperatures can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The city said people requiring emergency shelter can go to 316 Spruce St. S. for assistance.

The notice listed avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers, and covering exposed skin as ways to protect against extreme cold conditions.

The alert was posted on the City of Timmins website at 9:02 a.m. on March 24.
