The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Thursday, March 26, with temperatures expected to drop to -25 overnight, inclusive of wind chill.

The city said extreme cold can create health risks for people who are outdoors for long periods or who do not have adequate shelter, and it identified an emergency shelter location for anyone needing immediate assistance.

In its notice, the city said exposure to extreme cold temperatures can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The city said protection from extreme cold conditions includes avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers, and covering exposed skin.
