Timmins opens self-serve sandbag stations at three arena parking lots as spring melt begins
The City of Timmins has set up self-serve sandbag stations at the Whitney Arena, Mountjoy Arena and Confederation Arena parking lots as the spring melt gets underway.
The stations are intended to help residents fill sandbags if spring runoff causes flooding in low-lying areas or near waterways.
According to the city’s April 15 notice, each location is stocked with sand, empty bags, fill cylinders and shovels.
The city asked residents to take only what they reasonably require.
For updates on local watershed conditions and public advisories, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority posts information at www.mattagamiregion.ca. The city’s notice also says residents can sign up on the conservation authority’s website to receive flood notifications by email.
The city said it does not collect or remove used sandbags from private property.
