Timmins plans overnight water shutdown Sept. 24 in Mountjoy area west of Mattagami River Bridge

Water service will be shut off in Timmins’ Mountjoy area west of the Mattagami River Bridge from 10 p.m. on Sept. 24 to approximately 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2026, followed immediately by a precautionary boil-water advisory for all properties in that area, according to the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department.

Residents in the affected area will need to boil any water intended for consumption after service is restored and while the advisory remains in effect.

The city said the shutdown is scheduled to allow water control testing.

The work may be extended if more time is needed for testing.

During the disruption, the city says customers may experience discoloured water or air in the pipes, which can cause sputtering or spitting when taps are opened.

The precautionary boil-water advisory is being coordinated with Northeastern Public Health and will remain in place until satisfactory drinking-water results are obtained in two consecutive sets of samples taken at least 24 hours apart.

After water service is restored, the city says residents who notice discoloured water should run the cold-water tap closest to the source—typically a laundry tub—until the water runs clear. The notice says to run the tap for “15 to 10 minutes,” but it does not provide a clear timeframe.

The city said any water intended for consumption should still be boiled while the precautionary advisory remains in effect.
