Timmins plans Sept. 18, 2026 water control test; Mountjoy customers west of Mattagami River Bridge may see disruptions

Timmins plans to carry out a water control test on Sept. 18, 2026, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. that could disrupt service for Mountjoy water customers west of the Mattagami River Bridge.

The City of Timmins Environmental Services Department says the testing may affect water service in that area during the evening, and the work could run past 10 p.m. if more time is needed.

During the test, the city says customers may experience low or fluctuating water pressure, discoloured water, a temporary loss of water, and air in the pipes that can cause taps to sputter or spit when opened.

The city says discoloured water may appear yellow, brown, or reddish.

If customers see discoloured water, the city advises that they should not drink or use it.

The city also advises residents to run a cold-water tap—preferably an outside tap or a cold basement tap—for five to 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

The notice also says customers should avoid using hot water and doing laundry until the water is clear.

The advisory was issued by the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department as a precautionary notice about the planned testing in the Mountjoy area west of the Mattagami River Bridge.
