Timmins police and Ontario transportation ministry find out-of-service defects during March commercial vehicle checks
The Timmins Police Service Traffic Unit and Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation conducted joint commercial vehicle enforcement in Timmins and the surrounding area from March 9 to March 13, 2026, and police say officers found “numerous” out-of-service defects and other safety violations.
The checks took place during periods of heavy snowfall. Police said the enforcement focused on commercial vehicle inspections and screening to identify safety problems.
Officers conducted detailed inspections and used mass-inspection (“triage”) techniques to assess compliance, according to the Timmins Police Service.
Police identified hours-of-service violations, driver-qualification issues (including suspended drivers), load-securement violations and equipment defects. Equipment defects were the leading contributor to out-of-service findings, police said.
Other issues included registration and documentation problems, trip-inspection deficiencies and speeding, according to the Timmins Police Service.
