Timmins police call Dwyer Avenue shooting a homicide, ask for dashcam and surveillance video

Timmins police are investigating a March 14 shooting on Dwyer Avenue as a homicide after the victim died, and are asking the public for dashcam and surveillance video from parts of Timmins and Schumacher, police said in a March 16 update.

The request for video focuses on two time windows and areas that police say may be connected to the investigation. Police have not named the victim or released a suspect description.

The Timmins Police Service is seeking dashcam or surveillance footage from Father Costello Drive, from Highway 101 to Spruce Street, between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on March 14.

Police are also asking for dashcam or home surveillance video from Dwyer Avenue in Schumacher, between Boundary Lane and Grant Street, from 11 p.m. on March 13 to 2 a.m. on March 14.

According to police, officers responded at about 12:15 a.m. on March 14 to a report of a gunshot inside a residence on Dwyer Avenue in Timmins. Police said the victim was found inside the residence with a gunshot wound and was taken to Timmins and District Hospital.

In the March 16 update, police said the victim later died.

Police said the suspect fled the scene and that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Timmins police said the Criminal Investigation Division is working with its forensic identification unit and the Ontario Provincial Police forensic identification unit. Police also said they sought assistance from the OPP canine unit.

Police described the investigation as being in its early stages in the update.
