Timmins police close reported attempted child abduction investigation with no charges laid

Timmins Police Service says it has closed its investigation into a reported attempted child abduction and laid no charges.

The case drew public attention online after a Crime Stoppers post shared photos connected to the report. Police are now asking residents to delete related posts and images, warning that continued sharing of identifying information may cause “unnecessary harm and distress” to those involved.

In a statement dated Jan. 22, Timmins police said the couple pictured in the Crime Stoppers release came to the Timmins Police Service on their own. Police said they spoke with the couple about the allegations.

Police said the couple provided a “reasonable explanation” for what occurred.

Police said the person who reported the incident was told the outcome of the investigation and was satisfied with the explanation.

Timmins police asked members of the public to remove “any social media posts, images, or commentary related to this incident,” adding that the risk of harm is greater “particularly where no criminal offence has occurred.”

The police release did not say when the report was made or where the alleged incident was reported to have happened.
